Creative Work

We thoroughly enjoy a creative challenge at High Tone, so we were eager to participate in the 2009 Louisville 48 Hour Film Festival.  It was a great excuse to pull together some of our talented friends also in the video industry.  Forty-eight hours of brainstorming, shooting, editing, composing music and creating special effects left no time for sleep, but we enjoyed the experience.  We hope you find our final product intriguing.

Documentaries

Our Philosophy

The essence of a documentary is capturing a story.  Stories are part of our everyday lives, and their weight spans generations: the history of a family-run business, memories recalled by a loved one, the vision of a non-profit organization.  In all stories, High Tone is committed to a philosophy of respect in filming and maintaining the dignity of the participants.

"I had always felt life first as a story--and if there is a story, there is a story teller."

The Evergreen Foundation is located near Louisville, Ky.  We had the privilege of getting to know a number of staff members and children during production of the documentary and several additional trips to Romania.  Check out their website below.

Cross-Cultural Opportunities

We have a combined 25 years of cross-cultural experiences and overseas travel.  Past trips involved staffing basketball camps, working with various construction projects and assisting in medical clinics.  We enjoy the opportunity to experience new people, cultures and the stories that unfold.  Our passion is sharing these stories and the lives of the people involved through the medium of audio and video.

Business and Marketing

High Tone partners with companies in exploring unique and engaging ways to convey specific visions, products and/or services to an intended audience.  We recently completed a promotional video for For Earth, launching a fuel conditioner called FORCE.

Audio

Audio quality is essential in any project.  The advantages of an in-house audio engineer are access to industry standard equipment, attention to detail, mood expression and scene to scene continuity, expert mixing, soundtrack consulting, and on-site troubleshooting.  Services include front-of-house sound in a variety of venues, studio recording, editing, sound effects, sound for video, soundtracks and location work.

The clip below demonstrates the difference in audio quality from an on-camera mic to an industry standard boom mic.  The difference is a lower amount noise with less interference with the music track and greater realism.

The "snow globe" sound effect was recorded separately on-set and used to evoke memory within the scene. In the first clip, it is heard unprocessed while in the second clip, there is a certain mystical sound to it.
